CU Phosco P852 Lantern Installations

Amington, Tamworth

CU Phosco P852 lanterns are not a common sight here in Tamworth, and if I recall correctly, the rest of Staffordshire. This one is located on a new housing estate in Amington, and is the only known example to me. The rest of the street is lit with Philips SGS252s and WRTL Luma 1s.

Long Eaton

Some unique installations of CU Phosco P852s exist in Long Eaton. This first set are all mounted on the sleeved bases of Stanton 7 concrete columns. Every single concrete column in Derbyshire is actually sleeved, minus some private installations! Apparently these would have been swan-neck columns at one point, making them Stanton 7As. This first example is located on Grosvenor Avenue.

Not far away on Plant Lane is a sleeved column with another P852 installed. If you look closely, the lantern has quite a pathetic glare shield reflector installed!

This next example appears to have suffered damage around the base compartment, causing the door to fall loose.

A 20W lantern is mounted on the sleeve-bracket, likely to light the junction it lies on better.

Continuing on the theme of columns (not that the lanterns are very interesting by themselves) we have another column supporting a P852. Take a closer look at the column door! It's applied upside down... I'm somewhat baffled as-to-why a metal tie wasn't placed here to secure the door.

Ordinarily, this type of column would not be anything unique, but the manner in which this one is installed... still makes it quite ordinary. This kind-of thing happens more than it should... The columns hinge mechanism is blocked by the fence. Good luck servicing this column!
