GEC Z5713 Series Lantern Installations

The GEC Z5713 is an exquisite site out-and-about, finding them in-service is quite rare! MBF/U, SOX, SON and even GLS versions were available, the lantern itself having no gear. This makes it difficult to perform an exact identification, as the catalogue number depends on the lamp it runs. Consequently, this page covers the Z5713 (35W SOX) version. I've only photographed a few, but here they are!

Tamworth

This is column 6 of Crossfell, Stonydelph. It is the last GEC Z5713 in the area (as I did scout the area for any more). The column is slightly leaning, with the lantern day-burning.

The photocell wires are visible, casting a shadow on the bowl.

Lichfield

Located at the end of Smithfield Rise, Lichfield; I was truly stunned to see this still here in 2024! The lantern's clip can be seen on the top canopy. These lanterns open using a hinge mechanism, unlike most post-top fixtures, which unscrew, allowing the top canopy to be completely removed. This particular installation likely runs either 35W SOX (making it a Z5713) as it has to light a semi-large social area "behind" it. The SOX lamp and holder can just-barely be seen through the yellowed bowl.
