Abacus Orion Lantern Installations
Abacus Orions were the largest post-top in the Orion series. They were actually also marketed as a flood light, with incredible 360° light-distribution. They could run a wide-range of lamp-types, such as SON, metal halide, or induction lamps. Uniquely, these lanterns could sometimes be found running two lamps at once.
Burton-upon-Trent
The grounds of Burton Albion Football Club are littered with 8m steel columns fitted with Abacus Orion lanterns.
These lanterns all run SON lamps.
Crewe
Several examples of the Abacus Orion are located around Newdigate Street, and the surrounding car parks. This particular example is the first column on the right as you enter Newdigate Street from the North.
Nowadays most (or all) of them are fitted with LED retrofit lamps.
