Atlas Beta 3 Lantern Installations

Originally designed for group "B" roads, the Atlas Beta 3 is now a thing of the past. They were never really used in large numbers throughout the UK, so you can imagine how much of a stunning rarity they are nowadays! They feature a large overhanging plastic canopy, protecting the gasket-seal from degradation. The lanterns were designed for 45W-60W SOI or 35W/40W SOX lamps.

Burton-upon-Trent

An Atlas Beta 3 lantern is installed on a building along Belvedere Road. This particular example likely dates from the 60s.

The lantern has sadly lost it's bowl, and no lamp is installed either.

With the flash activated, it created a better view of the inside of the Beta 3. The tray is considerably corroded, but a capacitor is visible peering over the edge of the tray.
