Nowadays a stunning rarity, these 1940s/50s BTH Mazdalux Horizontal Enclosed lanterns were originally for SO/H lamps. The lanterns had both side-entry and top-entry mounting options. Much like many lanterns from the time period, they featured a bowl ring which held the bowl in place, and would hinge open towards the front of the lantern.

This beauty is unexpectedly located in the heart of Leicester, where most of the lighting is LED.

Despite being derelict, the lantern is in astonishing condition, and has avoided vandalism and (much) weather damage for decades!

There does appear to be a lamp in there, it may be an 85W SO/H lamp.
