CU Phosco P172 Lantern Installations

Also known as the Chevron, the Phosco P172 was a rare fixture, usually found running 50W-125W MBF-U, 50W-125W SON or 60W-200W tungsten. Wall and post-top mounted versions were available, and they were most common around large car parks or communal areas. Nowadays, few remain, owing to LED replacement schemes.

Long Eaton

West Park Leisure Centre in Long Eaton supports two P172s. The remains of the first lantern are pictured below, on a 5m concrete column.

At the base, an aluminium sheet has been fixed to the column where the door would have been.

The lantern isn't doing too well, if the pictures didn't make that clear! The spigot and a small section of bowl are all that remain after the canopy was knocked off in 2019. What's also evident in the picture is the sprawling concrete column.

Just down the pathway, another P172 is present. This one is in extraordinary condition when compared to it's companion.

The column's base remains unbranded, presuming that the column door is original.

The lantern appears in good condition externally, although it no longer works. I believe this example would have run 80W or 125W MBF-U.

Electrical tape is visible around the top of the column, under the spigot.
