ELECO HW-747 Lantern Installations

ELECO HW-747s (aka the Golden Ray Mk.VIII) are a rare 35W SOX or 40W-60W SO/H or SOI/H lantern. Back in their heyday, they were fairly abundant. The HW-747s were fairly-bulky things, allowing space for an integral gear, which they all had. They bore a strong resemblance to lanterns from other manufacturers such as the G.E.C Z9481, but their canopy is more-pill-shaped, making them stand-out against the others.

Burntwood

On Upfields, Burntwood are two ELECO HW-747 lanterns on GEC ZP1000 columns. They are both in acceptable condition for their age, although one lantern has succumbed to the formidable LED cob lamp:

The lantern appears in good condition, minus the LED cob. The same cannot be said for the ZP1000's bracket.

A slight pan-out reveals the extent of this damage. This isn't good news for the lantern, as the steel pipe has already begun to warp with the unsupported weight of the bracket and lantern.

From this angle you may notice something odd...

...And that would be the make-shift glare shield made from tin-foil inside the lantern. It really goes to show how harsh these LED lamps can be, given that this shield was not there before the LED lamp was installed.

Further down the lane is this tipsy-looking ZP1000 column with another ELECO HW-747. Not only is the column leaning forward, but the lantern is also rotated on it's bracket.

The lantern is a bit mucky, but still runs a SOX lamp.
