Faeber Kappa 1 Lantern Installations

Faeber Lighting Systems' Kappa 1 lantern was most common in mainland Europe, so it's quite unusual to see them over here in the UK. They were available for high-intensity discharge lamps between 50W-150W, at which point the larger Kappa 2 would take over for 150W and above. They could come with either flat-glass or a deep bowl.

Tamworth

The Faeber Lighting Systems Kappa lantern is (unfortunately) very rare here. The only known examples to me are located nearby to the Tamworth Services just off of the M42. This is a shame, as I really love these lanterns. They're extremely reliable and yet distinctive, and they are still sold today! I am keeping a very close eye on these lanterns and plan to contact the authority that owns them to see if I can have one once they are removed.

The lantern's frame is made from die-cast aluminium, and is covered by a fibreglass canopy. These appear to be the Kappa 1s, retrofitted with LED cobs although presumably they ran 50-70W SON before.
