GEC Z9464 Lantern Installations

GEC's Z9464 was the integral-geared version of the Z9454. It could run 90W SOX, 66W SOX-E, 140W SOI/H or 140W SO/H lamps. The easiest way to identify these against the Z9454 is to check for the presence of a convex reflector tray inside which covers the gear-area. Much like the rest of the lanterns in the same series, the canopy consists of diecast aluminium, and an acrylic or UV-stabilized polycarbonate bowl is applied to close off the lantern.

These examples are located on a building along Grosvenor Road. There are three in total towards the road, each in varying conditions. The first one is missing it's bowl and lamp, and the gear-tray is heavily corroded.

There doesn't appear to be any lamp bases in the holders, so they could have been removed intentionally.

The second of these is in the worst condition, missing it's reflector, bowl, gear, lamp and lamp-holder.

What remains of a capacitor-holder and the screws that held in the ballast are still inside. A GEC name plate is also incorporated towards the front-end. Unfortunately by this point the sun had already set, so I had to rely on my camera's flash to capture the photo, thus I couldn't get a close-up of the internal plate.

Out of the three, the final one is a complete unit, and is in the best condition. The bracket was angled about 45° to distribute the light around the corner of the building.
