GEC Z9480 Lantern Installations
GEC's Z9480 range of lanterns bears a strong resemblance to the Z9454/5 lantern range. The GEC Z9480 was a remote-geared, side-entry lantern for 45W-60W SO/H, 45W-60W SOI/H or 35W SOX. Very few of these lanterns exist nowadays, but there are some areas around the UK where they can still be seen. An integral-geared version of this lantern existed: the Z9490/1.
Nottingham
On Bagnall Road, Nottingham is this amazing example of a Z9480. It's located in between the two roundabouts on the road, and is now in someone's garden. There's a chance that this street light is the remains of an old housing estate (or another road) that would have joined Bagnall Road here. It looks like the bracket and lantern were a later addition to the column.
The lantern is in great condition. It being behind someone's fence appears to have deterred (most) vandals.
There is, however, a small crack in the bowl at the front of the lantern.
