GEC Z9481 Lantern Installations
GEC's Z9481 was the top-entry, 35W, remote-geared version of the "Diamond Bowl" series, although this name is unofficial. They were used in decent quantity throughout the UK, often in-conjunction with their side-entry counter-parts. Sadly, the bowls on these lanterns had nearly always suffered some damage, as the acrylic weakened with age.
Burntwood
Column E30 of Ogley Hay Road is a GEC ZP1000 column, topped-off with a GEC Z9481.
The lantern is generally in good condition. Notice the two-part cadmium-sulphide photocell detector on the left-hand side of the lantern's canopy.
Sadly, after approaching the column, a number spray-painted on the ground revealed that this could be the end-of-the-line for this installation.
The door is not the original GEC door, instead a replacement is fitted.
The lantern lacks a gear, meaning the gear is in the base of the column. The lantern is fitted with a 26W SOX-E lamp.
You can see the ceramic wire-connectors due to the lack of a reflector-tray.
