GEC Z9532 Lantern Installations
The GEC Z9532 was the integral-geared, side-entry, 35W SOX version of the GEC Nightwatch. The canopy could be made from aluminium or GRP fibreglass, and the bowl either acrylic or polycarbonate. They were fairly popular throughout the UK, often being used on side-roads. They declined in popularity through the 1990s and early 2000s due to other 35W SOX lanterns competing with them. This decrease in popularity was not exclusive to the Z9532, as the whole Nightwatch range experienced the same downturn.
Uttoxeter
George Elliot Close, Uttoxeter is home to a group of GEC Z9532s, all running 26W SOX-E. Column C3 was pictured first:
This one has a small amount of damage to the column door.
An under view of the lantern reveals the lamp, and curved-shape of the Nightwatch.
C2 was next. This lantern was previously day-burning.
Finally, C5 was photographed.
From this angle you can see the photocell wiring inside.
