Philips MI80 Lantern Installations

The Philips MI80 was the 55W SOX/36W SOX-E version of the Philips MI50. It was strikingly-similar in design, with the same squarish aluminium canopy shape, albeit longer. Due to the extra length, the clips were located on the side of the lantern, rather than the back like the MI50. The Philips MI80 was also sold as the SXK55 (KombiPak) as a security light. The inclusion of a wall-bracket with the security light version makes it easily distinguishable from it's road-lighting counterpart.

Burton-upon-Trent

A site off Parkway has at least two abandoned MI80s, although these could be the SXK55 security light version. The site is littered with Phosco FL300s, so I doubt these are still in service.

This one is located inside the site, while the other is situated where the site entrance meets the road. A close-up of the above installation reveals a two-part photocell drilled into what would have been the top-entry spigot. Some rust is present in the bowl so it may have internal water damage...

The second installation, in the shrubbery near the site entrance.

Drilled into the canopy is a Royce Thompson P42 photocell detector, again, installed on what would have been the top-entry spigot.

Lichfield

Europa Way, Lichfield supports several Philips MI80s, all running 55W SOX.

Tamworth

Another barely-used SOX lantern here, their rarity makes it unsurprising that this installation is privately owned, by a business in Two Gates Industrial Estate. It's wall mounted on a short outreach wall bracket (making it the SXK55), and runs 35W SOX in the 55W lantern.

The same lantern at night.

Another Philips SXK55 exists on a private lot just-off Claymore. As evident by the SON floodlight situated just-below, this installation hasn't worked in a long time!

I know of a few other installations, all privately owned. This one is in Lichfield Industrial Estate. It runs 26W SOX-E.
