Philips V-SHO Lantern Installations

Originally a German lantern, the Philips V-SHO was the: top-entry, remote-geared, open-type lantern in the "Wuppertal" series. They were incredibly rare over here in the UK, and most of the ones that do exist are in a state of disrepair. These lanterns were also used as high-mast lighting. The "V" at the beginning of the name stands for "Verkehrsleuchte", which was a name given to Philips lanterns made in Germany.

Burton-upon-Trent

A single Philips V-SHO lantern is installed on the side of a building on Curzon Street.

Interestingly, the lantern looks to be mounted on pipe-work, and is still in good condition!

The mercury lamp within is a different story... Not much is left of the outer-bulb, and it has been like this for several years.

The side facing the road has some damage resulting from pellets or rocks.
