Phosware P157 Lantern Installations

Sold under the Phosware brand, the P157 was the 85W-140W sodium, side-entry lantern in the relatively-small P15X series. These lanterns could be fitted with shallow or deep refractor bowls. These lanterns are very rare nowadays, with few left dotted about.


Crewe

This derelict remote-geared P157 is located just off Macon Way, on what is now a Network Rail site.

The lantern is in great condition considering it's abandonment! What may be a 90W SOX lamp is present within the bowl, visible only due to the fact the sun was behind the lantern in the photo.

The lantern is incredibly simplistic in shape, best-seen from underneath. Notice the single oddie-key holding the bowl closed, with the rear one having gone missing a while back.

The base of the column was open, in that the door was missing entirely! A heavily-rusted leak-transformer is present inside:
