REVO Horizon Lantern Installations
The REVO Horizon was essentially the larger version of the Diadem. They were made for 250W-400W MBF/U, MA/V or MB/U lamps. This page is for the remote-geared version, but there was a Horizon Major, which was larger so it could accommodate an integral-gear. These lanterns were side-entry only.
Birmingham
Two Horizon lanterns exist around Foundry Lane, they are both privately-owned, Mk.II examples.
Some putty occupied the column around the spigot area to stop water-ingress, but this probably isn't necessary.
This one also has some putty around the spigot area. Fitted atop the lantern is what I believe is a Royce Thompson P5 photocell.
Interestingly, both of these installations have the bowls for elliptical lamps, but it's unknown if any lamps remain inside. A Thorn SonPAK floodlight occupies the column alongside the Horizon, which also confirms the Horizons are not in use.
Burntwood
Plant lane in Burntwood has several long-abandoned REVO Phidias concrete columns which one-upon-a-time supported REVO Horizons (Mk.I versions). The columns now have no lanterns, as the last two Horizons were rescued recently by fellow collector AgentHalogen_87 with permission from the site owner. These pictures were all taken while the two final Horizons were still installed. Column F1 was photographed first. This was also the first to be seen with no lantern.
A capacitor is visible in the column's base, but no ballast is. The mains cable was found entering the base but I confirmed it not to be live.
The uninhabited bracket has started to succumb to the elements.
Column F2 is the next column down the road. This one has a Horizon lantern, but it's missing it's bowl. Despite this, the lamp appears intact.
This column (unlike the previous example) also has it's original REVO door. It has sustained some damage resulting in the necessity of a metal-tie to keep the door closed.
The third column (F3) is another example with no lantern.
The bracket on this one is in appalling condition at the base. Nothing but the steel pipe remains to hold the weight of all that concrete!
Another column (F4) was without a lantern or door.
Inside the column's base are the rusted remains of a mercury vapour ballast.
Until now, we've only seen badly damaged examples of the columns and a damaged example of a lantern, and while it's not perfect, F5 is the most-intact installation on this road.
From this angle, the lantern looks-to-be in good shape.
...There is, however, a portion of the bowl missing.
The door is also secured with electrical tape.
The following pictures were taken of this lantern by AgentHalogen_87 during their rescue mission:
