Thorn Alpha 7 Lantern Installations
Thorn's Alpha 7 was a lantern that could run 250W-400W MBF/U in both the integral or remote-geared versions, or 250W-400W SON or 400W MBI/F in the remote-geared versions only. They were decent in quantity throughout the UK back in the day, but nowadays they teeter of the edge of extinction, with few installations remaining. The canopy comprised an LM6-M aluminium allow, with the bowl having been composed of glass.
Burton-upon-Trent
A set of integral Alpha 7s are present outside of Isabel's Restaurant & Bar, Burton. I have visited them at night and can confirm they do not work or have been disconnected. They are believed to contain 250W MBF/U lamps.
These dormant gems are all in decent condition (excluding the column on this example!)
The rest are all wall-mounted.
The presence of a lamp is clear-as-day in this example! You can also see how the gear would be accessed, with the removal of a screw at the back of the lantern, which would cause the base to hinge towards the bowl.
Lichfield
These Thorn Alpha 7s are located on the side of a council depot on Whitley Drive, Lichfield. They run 250W MBF/U lamps, though it isn't known if they still work.
