Thorn Gamma Basique Lantern Installations

I like to think of the Thorn Gamma Basique as the re-made Gamma 6. That is because, well, it is! Much like the Gamma 6, they could use a wide-range of lamp types, including but not limited to: SOX, SON, MH and LED. A few canopy designs were available, wide-canopy, slim canopy, and thick canopy. This lantern is most-easily identified by its distinctive grey paint and base-shape.

Tamworth Town Centre

This is one of only two known examples of the Thorn Gamma Basique in Tamworth. Running 50W SON, it is located in the town centre (in a private carpark) on a 4m column. At night it lights up the area brightly, and the rest of the carpark is lit with Thorn Beta 79s presumably also running 50W SON. Much like the Beta 79s, this Basique is operated by a Zodion SS2 photocell (Not visible in the photo). As you can see, the low mounting height coupled with it's location being tucked away under a tree, means this lantern could do with a good wash!

Mercian Park, Amington

This Gamma Basique was spotted through the fence of an adjacent footpath on the 15th June 2024. I'm almost certain there will be more examples in this car park area. It's a beautiful example of the wide-canopied Gamma Basique.
