Unidentified Subway Lantern Installations

This page covers all of the unidentified subway lights and lanterns I have come across. Most run fluorescent lamps and are long abandoned. They can be sighted around many areas of the UK.

Tamworth Town Centre

An underpass travelling under River Drive, Tamworth, supports several of these unidentified fittings in a mix of Simmonsigns Safe-Ways. I believe these fittings are made by CU Phosco. The first installation is lantern 2. The old T18 lantern number is spray-painted onto the bowl. This is unusual as there are only 10 fixtures under this tunnel. They are all situated on one side, so I imagine the other side would have also had these installed.

They all used to run two linear fluorescent lamps, but they have been long-abandoned. The next lantern visible between the Safe-Ways is lantern 8, or formerly T15.

With a portion of the bowl missing, one of the lamps can be sighted a lot easier inside. The lantern number is also upside-down! The frosted bowl is better visible in this close-up.

The next and final lantern is lantern number 10. It lacks the spray-painted lantern number.

Long Eaton

On a footpath off Wilmot Street, Long Eaton, are some installations identical to the Tamworth ones. These are in varying states of disrepair, with most having been vandalized.

This is one of the better examples. Unlike the Tamworth examples, the bowls don't seem to be yellowed...

...But they are covered in spray paint!
