Urbis Sapphire 1 Lantern Installations
The Urbis Sapphire 1 is the smaller version of the Sapphire two, or vice versa. Aluminium and plastic canopies were available on them. The Sapphire 1 is still in production to-this-day, with cosmowhite and LED versions available. SON examples were also wildly popular throughout the early 2010s.
Barton-under-Needwood
Several Sapphire 1s exist along Potters Way, bearing some unique modifications!
The most obvious of which is that they are green! Notice as well the canopy is undrilled for a photocell, and the lanterns are fitted with glare shields.
The feeder-pillar for these installations is located to the rear of Column 1.
Column E13K:
Birmingham
In Birmingham, the Sapphire 1 lantern was used as a casual replacement on side roads. This one is on column 2 of Weaman Street. It replaced a WRTL SRL8 in 2014.
It is situated on an original Birmingham City column, but the door has since been replaced.
Tamworth
These Urbis Sapphire 1 Lanterns run 45W CPO-T lamps, and are mounted on 6m steel columns in a new housing estate near Ventura Retail Park, Tamworth. They have low-profile polycarbonate bowls.
This example has a flat-glass bowl instead of a low-profile polycarbonate bowl like the other installations.
The grey aluminium-canopied version of this lantern can be seen in Borough Park, Tamworth. It too runs a 45W CPO-T lamp.
