GEC Z9536 Lantern Installations

The GEC Z9536 was the remote-geared, side-entry, 55W SOX version of the GEC Nightwatch. The canopy could be made from aluminium or GRP fibreglass, and the bowl either acrylic or polycarbonate. They were fairly popular throughout the UK, often being used on main roads and side-roads. They declined in popularity through the 1990s and early 2000s due to other 55W SOX lanterns competing with them.

Tamworth Town Centre

The GEC Z9536 (also known as the Nightwatch) is used in small numbers here in Tamworth. The examples I do know of are few-and-far between. These ones are located on Hospital Street, they all work to this day. They are Z9536s, as they are the remote geared, side entry version of the Nightwatch.

Europa Way, Lichfield

Europa Way, Lichfield supports several GEC Z9536s.

Rust from the lamp-holder holder has been washed off by water ingress down into the bowl of this lantern, causing a red colour in the base of the bowl.
