Simmonsigns Safe-Way Lantern Installations

The Simmonsigns Safe-Way is an underpass fitting designed for use in high-vandalism areas. It has an internal IP rating of 65, and comes in Fluorescent and LED forms. It is one of the most-prevalent underpass fittings seen in the UK! For the fittings that still run PL-L lamps, a retrofitting kit can be purchased from Simmonsigns especially for this lantern.

Amington, Tamworth

The Safe-Way is also used in Amington to light the various underpasses. The following examples are installed in series, and are located underneath Mercian Way.

This is one of the few vandalised fittings. It appears to have been burned by a lighter, however the Safe-Way still shines brightly as the cover managed to hold up!

A failed lantern can be seen slightly further down the tunnel.

An underpass under Woodland Road also has these fitted. The 55W PL-L lamps all glow brightly, without a failed unit.

Tamworth Town Centre

These were the lantern of choice for Tamworth Borough Council to light the underpasses around the Town Centre. Due to it's specific vandal-resistant design, it's rare to see these damaged. Nearly all of them still work.

More Safe-Ways are visible underneath River Drive, Tamworth. None of these work anymore, and they haven't in several years. A dormant 55W PL-L lamp can be seen inside.

The Simmonsigns Logo is stuck to the gear tray, easily visible through the lens.

This is near-enough the same situation the other lanterns are in. Lantern 6 is extensively grubby, and was difficult to get a picture of in the dark.

Lantern 7 sports a longer column number, yet is in much-the-same condition as the other lanterns.

Lantern 8 is the last Safe-Way in this tunnel, although in-between these Safe-Ways are older fittings which I believe are made by CU Phosco.
