This Holophane V-Max was saved from column 19 of Amington road, Tamworth. The column was struck by a vehicle, which sent the lantern tumbling to the ground. When I found it, it was in three pieces. Both LED chevrons had snapped off and the lantern's body was buried under debris from the car. The lantern would have just sat there until it was swept up with the other debris and disposed of, so I decided to give it a go at repairing it. Evidently, the MEWP crews had already attended the column, leaving the destroyed lantern behind or just not spotting it under the debris.
The lantern looks to have hit the ground with some force! The spigot was badly damaged, and the cable ripped in half.
After arriving home with the lantern, I decided to open it and assess the damage. The inside of the lantern had survived the fall.
The chevrons were re-connected and a new mains cable with a plug was added to give the lantern a test. It worked like a treat!
There were still a few problems that needed addressing: The damaged spigot, front chevron and the re-attachment of the chevrons. The latter was done with ease as new bolts would still fit the damaged threads:
There was also a section of the lantern's spine missing; it was presumably destroyed on-impact with the ground.
A new spigot was also fitted a few days later.
I will be keeping the front-chevron original as it gives the lantern some character and a story.
The lantern operated on dim profile B, which is: 100%: switch on - 20:00, 50%: 20:00 - 06:00, 100%: 06:00 - switch off. The 61 on the sticker refers to the wattage.
Fitted on top is a Zodion SS6 photocell dated to February 2017.
The NEMA socket is dated December 2016.
The inside cleaned up really well!
The lantern powered up with the chevrons re-attached:
