Pearce Gowshall's L68/25 signlight was a common sight throughout the UK, and they can even be found in abundance to-this-day! This one's original location is not known, but the reason for it's removal is: the photocell was faulty, and the lantern wouldn't light at all. The lantern was in a dirty, yet overall good condition when received.
The faulty Zodion SS10N photocell:
The bowl can be opened by undoing the screw visible between the manufacturers name. Immediately visible inside are the two T5 8W lamps, their shared capacitor and the mains supply cable. The two wing nuts in the centre of the gear-tray can be removed to take the tray off. A 01/05/1998 hand-written date code is located on the gear-tray.
On the underside of the tray are the two Pearce C8 ballasts and Philips S2 starters.
The faulty (and now disconnected) cell's underside:
With the dodgy cell disconnected, the lantern had no further issues and the two lamps flickered back into service!
