The Philips MA90 Mk.1 was the original design for the Philips MA90. The main difference was the inclusion of a shoe on the rear-end of the lantern. A smaller shoe was present on remote-geared lanterns, and a larger shoe on integral-geared lanterns. This one is mine, coming in mucky, yet good condition. The distinguished side-profile of the lantern is seen below, having been crudely held up by some grippers.

The lantern is very similar to the Mk.2 MA90, but you may notice the shoe taking the place of the spigot (or rather the other-way round). The lantern is also fitted with a HL2 photocell. The cell was damaged when it arrived, so it was glued back together, tested, and finally, wrapped in electrical tape to create a make-shift dummy-link cell.

The lantern sports the same four bowl clips as the later-MA90. These can all be undone and the bowl swings open.

A 66W SOX-E lamp is fitted in the lantern.

The back of the lantern is where all the action takes place! The under-side of the NEMA socket, wiring, spigot attachment bolts, an inspection sticker and a ruined identification sticker are all present.

This is more apparent without the lamp obscuring the view.

The lamp was fitted some-time in April 2020.

In the spigot are the remains of a Stanton concrete outreach bracket, part of the internal pipe being all that remains.

Without a gear, there was nothing much that could go wrong with the lantern itself, so when it was wired up to a gear-board, it worked like a treat!
