This is the second Thorn Beta 5 to enter the collection. It is a shared asset between me and collector AgentHalogen_87. Coming with a ZP1000 concrete bracket, the whole installation is incredibly heavy, nevertheless, I did manage to find a place to put it. I frequently use this lantern as a nightlight, having it running 26W SOX-E in the corner which provides a nice calm light to the rest of the lantern room.
The Beta 5 is in great condition overall, the acrylic bowl has clouded over-the-decades, but this adds to the look of the installation.
A Zodion SS12AHD cell is fitted atop the canopy, but this would have been a replacement for a two-part cell.
The lantern was fitted with one of my 26W SOX-E lamps, which will now remain with the lantern. I hand-wrote a date on the lamp reading "LC 15/09/2024"
The identification sticker is located on the gear-tray, along with the remains of a Mk. sticker.
The tray is on a hinge, and removing the screw at the from allows it to hinge down.
The Beta 5 was tested in early September 2024 and worked like a treat!
