The Urbis ZX3 was the second-largest lantern in the ZX series. They were designed for 100W-400W SON/MH lamps. This is mine, having run only 100W when in service. Due to the incredible build-quality of these lanterns, this ZX3 is in great condition, and only required a quick clean. To top this off, all parts are likely original (apart from the photocell). This is the second-largest lantern in the collection in terms of volume.
From a birds eye perspective, the lantern's wide profile is apparent. The canopy is separated into two halves. The front section is where the optic is located, this section is fixed onto the lantern's base. The rear-section is where the gear is located; this section can be opened.
The lantern's Zodion SS6 photocell:
From beneath, the lantern is detectable in design. It features a large optic and grid design, along with a post-top or side-entry spigot.
At the very back of the lantern is where two metal clips are located. Releasing these allows the back-canopy to hinge upwards.
This discloses the gear, lamp-holder and identification sticker.
A 2nd September 1999 date is printed onto the identification sticker, albeit heavily-faded.
The underside of the NEMA socket pokes through the canopy.
The gear is very likely original to the lantern, as all parts are dated to 1999 and/or made by Urbis.
The 12μF capacitor dates to the 20th week of 1999, which is May 17th-May 23rd.
The lamp-holder is Urbis' signature twist-and-pull mechanism. This makes lamp-changes easy.
