Previously sold as the GEC Z8832, the SRL8 was fairly-common throughout the UK. What wasn't common, however, was this variant of it. Black variants and flat-glass variants were rarely seen about, but I have both in one lantern! This one runs 70W SON-T. Sadly the paintwork has suffered at the hands of the elements and storage since it's removal. Despite this, it will be kept original. The paintwork has also protected the GRP, and thus it hasn't started to release fibres.
The lantern is fitted with a Zodion SS6 photocell.
The cell itself is dated July 2012 on the base, while the NEMA socket is dated October 2005.
To access the lamp-compartment, a clip is present at the street-end. This example's is slightly misshapen, but does firmly hold the bowl closed.
Inside is the lantern's original 70W SON-T lamp.
Printed on the inside of the flat-glass is the word "Toughened". Presumably this lantern is rated for anti-vandalism.
The door to the gear compartment is located on the rear-underside of the lantern, fixed in place by a single screw.
Upon loosening the screw, the door swings open to reveal the identification sticker and gear, both of which are mounted on the access-door, rather than inside the lantern's body.
In this case, the gear is an Osram Powertronic PTi 70/220-240 S. The gear was damaged either during service, removal or during transit, but did still work. It was re-fixed to the base with electrical tape.
