Phosco P222 Lantern Installations

The P222 by Phosco was essentially the larger P178/P179. These ginormous lanterns could run: 3x SOX 90W, 3x MBF or 3x SON lamps. Much like the smaller P178/9, the lamps are situated horizontally within the canopy, with all-three pointing towards the lantern's centre. The canopy is comprised of light-weight aluminium, and the bowl from D.R. acrylic.

Birmingham

A Phosco P222 was spotted along Cambridge Street, column 17. This was a stunning discovery, as the installation was day-burning at the time! I believe this is a SOX example. Only one of the lamps is burning, if there are more than one.

All of the columns along this street would have held Phosco P222s in the past, but these were all swapped to Candela Biggars. It is unknown why this one was left.

Telford

P222s litter central Telford, England. They're an easy-spot given they exist on 10-12m columns, running 3x 250W SON. This first example is situated in the car park outside of Darwin Group.

Later in the day I managed to find the time to visit this lantern.

I also discovered two more P222s in Hall Court Car Park:
