REVO Precinct Lantern Installations
This rare post-top was also known as the REVO Birmingham or Hatfield, and as the name suggests, was used there frequently. They ran 60W-200W tungsten filament or 80W-125W MBF/U lamps, and much like many REVO lanterns for side-roads, were remote-geared.
Birmingham
Located on a small parking area outside of Spaces - Birmingham, Crossway is this surviving REVO Precinct. It is one of Birmingham's last.
The lantern has been day-burning for six years, running an 80W MBF/U lamp. This allows us to see the internal refractor which envelops the lamp.
Erskine Street has three Precincts which map out where the old pathway would have been. These are council-owned columns, and count as the first, second and third columns on this footpath despite their derelict nature.
The bowl ring hangs open, with the refractor (if it had one) and bowl missing off the third column:
The second one of these is in identical condition, both the bowl and refractor missing, with the ring hanging open. This column appears slightly newer than the others; the Precinct was re-used.
The first column may be a bit harder to spot! It's IN the tree! To continue reading about this installation, click here.
