WRTL Stela Wide Lantern Installations

The WRTL Stela wide is a variant of the Stela, with a much wider canopy to spread light over a wider area: hence the name. 24,36 and 52 LEDs were the options available when purchasing. Interestingly, the Stela Wide was post-top only, which is an unusual choice for an LED lantern. This lantern is now sold as the Philips Stela Wide.

Birmingham

The WRTL (Philips) Stela Wide was wildly common throughout Birmingham City. This example is located on column 1 of Theatre Approach, on a red column.

This lantern carries 24 LEDs.

Another example in Birmingham was discovered in December 2024. Unlike the previous one, this one was down on the ground. My assumption is it was dumped here illegally, or forgotten about, as it had been there a while!

Due to it's position, the lantern had taken in some water, and a few of the LEDs on the LED board had failed.

I decided to do the council a favour, and (partially) clean up the mess! The lantern was saved into my collection, where it was cleaned up and partially re-wired.
