My Collection: Holophane R-Line

Holophane's R-Line is the largest of the two lanterns in the Line range. Power-consumptions range from 28W-134W on the newer model. This one, being 100W, is one of the brightest and most-powerful versions. It was purchased NOS from a lighting store, and consequently has only ever been lit once as-of 15/09/2024.

Much like the S-Line, the lantern has one major design flaw, that being that it's hinged at the top, and just after the LED board there is a slight-dip in the lantern's profile towards this access door, allowing water to sit there for extended periods depending on the mounting angle. In some cases the water can break through the seal and cause the lantern to fail.

The cell socket is the main feature of the canopy.

Access to the driver and internals is gained with the loosening of one screw on top of the canopy. On the driver is a hand-written "P" presumably standing for "passed".

Being brand-new, the instructions and some safety information were also included with the lantern. The images can be enlarged for an easier read.

With eye-protection, the R-Line was powered up for the first time ever! It was quite the sight having a 100W LED lantern on in my living room!
