REVO Hyperion Bs were an incredibly rare, remote-geared lantern. They were predominantly used on "A" roads, having run 140W or 200W SLI lamps before 135W SOX or 91W SOX-E examples were sold. Their aluminium canopy and lack-of a gear makes them extremely lightweight for their size. This is my Hyperion B, having entered the collection on 20/07/2024. The Hyperion B is simple in shape, but is fairly identifiable due to the indent in the underside of the bowl.
From below, the unique bowl shape is apparent. The remains of reflective tape are stuck to the inside of the bowl.
Green paint is splattered on the back of the lantern, likely from the column it was mounted on being painted that colour.
The back of the lantern is also where the bowl clip is located. By simply pulling on it, the lantern's bowl comes undone.
With the bowl opened, the main feature on display is the lamp. The lamp-support was bent to one side, but this was an easy fix.
The lantern's sticker and an "approved to British standards" sticker are extant towards the back of the lantern. The BS 1788: 1964 note dates the lantern to between 1964 and 1967. "A42.304" is the lantern's catalogue number.
The lantern's original lamp-type would have been SLI. The bracket which would have supported the SLI lamp-holder at the front of the lantern is still there as this wasn't removed when the SOX versions were sold.
On the lanterns canopy, a NEMA socket is present. It's dated to November 1989, the HL2 cell was added by me. The lantern probably ran on a time clock originally.
The lantern was powered on the next day, running off the gear from an MA50.
